It Evades Me

It sits tastelessly on my tongue
Ephemerally unformed
It escapes me
Hidden in recesses of my memory
Teasing and testing my patience
Rendering me lost in mid-sentence
A, B, C . . . X, Y, Z
Articulated
Hoping cerebral recollection of characters
Force
The intangible from my brain
Darn
It just won’t come
It escapes me again
Oh, how annoying
It was just there recently
Fingers tapping, eyes squinting
Furrowed brow
Distractions and musings
Hoping the misplaced will appear
Magically
It doesn’t
Frustrated, I opt for the equivalent
Bold and highlighted bright yellow
To be revisited when
That elusive word slips from my tongue . . .
